Upcoming Changes to the Trader Support Service Following the Windsor Framework

Introduction

UK businesses and traders moving goods into or out of Northern Ireland must prepare for a major update, as the next phase of the Trader Support Service (TSS) is scheduled to launch for all users on 20 October 2026. Currently operating in private beta, this upcoming transition follows updates implemented under the Windsor Framework and carries important compliance implications for supply chain management.

Key Details

Businesses currently registered with the outgoing Trader Support Service will be automatically migrated to the new platform, meaning existing users do not need to re-register. Additional guidance on accessing the updated system will be issued ahead of the launch. However, from 20 October 2026, all new goods movements must be submitted exclusively through the updated service.

Chosen by HMRC, the free-to-use Trader Support Service is designed to help businesses navigate complex customs and compliance requirements. The platform provides comprehensive education, training, and advisory resources regarding regulatory shifts under the Windsor Framework. Furthermore, it can handle necessary customs, safety, and security declarations on behalf of traders and hauliers moving freight between Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales) and Northern Ireland, removing the need for direct interaction with HMRC systems.

Traders who have not yet prepared for post-Brexit trade requirements risk disruption to their supply chains. Support is available through the dedicated contact centre on 0800 870 8173, operating from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, seven days a week.

What This Means for UK Businesses

For UK business owners, sole traders, and logistics providers moving freight across the Irish Sea, accurate bookkeeping and regulatory compliance are essential. Failing to adapt to these procedural updates can lead to delayed shipments and administrative penalties. Utilising the free TSS platform helps businesses manage their VAT, safety, and customs obligations smoothly without requiring extensive internal accounting infrastructure.

Summary

The next phase of the Trader Support Service goes live on 20 October 2026 to support goods movements under the Windsor Framework. Existing users will be migrated automatically, while new applicants can sign up via the official TSS website. Ensuring your business is prepared early safeguards your operations against compliance delays.
